The Museum Resource Center is a special collection of historical and educational materials housed in the Thomas J. Boyd Museum. The collection is a compilation of materials and original documents that have been gathered by the Wythe County Historical Society over a period of thirty years. The Center is staffed by volunteers who collect, index, and file materials and assist center users with research requests.
The primary focus of the Center is the history of Wythe County and the surrounding Virginia area. The collection contains books, periodicals, historical files, family papers, documents, journals, newspapers, obituary files, military records, slides and videos. Genealogical materials and a surname exchange are being developed for genealogical research. Educational materials are available for community programs and school curriculums. Researchers interesed in Wythe County history will find a wealth of information in the collection of Wythe County Historical Reviews dating back to 1971.
Our Museum Resource Center is open to the public for research by mail or in-house. Limited research by staff can be requested by mail, e-mail or phone for a fee of $15.00 which includes one hour of research and up to ten copies of information. For each additional hour of research there will be a $5.00 charge and copies beyond ten will be 25 cents each. All requests must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope and the $15.00 fee. If these conditions are not met, we regret that we will be unable to fill your request. For in-house research the fee is $3.00, which includes 3 copies; additional copies are 25 cents each.
There is no charge to use the Resource Center for Wythe County educators and students and Tier II Museum Associate Members of the Wythe County Historical Society.
