You would expect an area that has the second oldest river in the world to have an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunitiesand you'd be right. Wythe County is filled with everything that means the Great Outdoors.

To start with, you can find local, state, and national parks with a variety of facilities that offer recreational experiences for all ages and abilities. There are dozens of trails to hike, ride, and explore from the 57-mile New River Trail that follows an abandoned railroad bed to the Seven Sisters Trail on the area's National Forest Scenic Byway.

Scenic drives are abundant throughout the area; several back roads drives are noted on the Wythe County map. Many are ideal for the bicyclist or motorcycle rider as well as for those in automobiles. Please be sure to note the speed limits on these roads, as many of them will take you through interesting turns and curves and some through residential areas.

There are plenty of creeks, farms, lakes, and rivers to fish in and hundreds of acres of forest for traditional hunting or viewing the beautiful scenery, plants, trees, and native animal life.
Wythe County offers six different campground facilities with a variety of locations and amenities from primitive sites to all the conveniences.
